- Looking Back, Looking Forward
January 2024 Now that it’s 2024, we want to take a moment to look back at how far we have come as a party since 2022. If you recall, in the months leading up to our 2022 Seward County Republican party convention, a record number of Seward County citizens united and signed up to be delegates. Many had no idea what it meant to be a delegate at that time but wanted to become involved in county and state politics. From that night forward, we were able to re-establish the Republican Party within Seward County. With conviction in our hearts and a spirit of determination, we forged onward. In the past two years, we: elected a full slate of delegates to represent our county at the State Convention. created and amended our Seward County Republican Constitution. created committees to manage and provide involvement opportunities with our county party. held regular meetings to establish a presence in the communities across the county. invited speakers and state senators to share their knowledge and inspiration. provided meet-and-greet events for the public to meet political candidates. had volunteers from our party learn how to use our canvassing app and actively knock on doors to campaign for local candidates. alerted and informed our members about legislation so they could submit testimony online or go to the Capitol to testify in person. Successfully organized our first annual fundraising gala. We even had a float in the Seward 4th of July parade! In addition to these highlights, it is also noteworthy that a close working relationship with the State Party was developed, and our officers answered the call to help other counties get their local parties up and running! Seward County Republicans are actively engaged with the statewide Republican Party, including open communication with party leaders all across Nebraska. These unifying connections help strengthen both our county and state parties. So much growth has occurred in such a short time! While the last two years were spent learning the system and how to improve it, we can now implement what we have learned to make an even greater impact in Seward County and Nebraska politics! 2024 promises to be ‘a year to remember’, and we look forward to the opportunities where we can engage in creating positive memories together!

- Chair Report – Seward GOP Convention March 22, 2026
Good afternoon, fellow Republicans of Seward County. Thank you for being here today—it's great to see so many new faces stepping up to shape our party's future. Before we dive into the business of the day, I want to address the “other” elephant in the room that's been on everyone's mind the last several days: the Sheriff's race and the two candidates who were removed from the primary ballot. We all know how frustrating and disappointing this has been for many in our community—good people stepped up to serve, and technical filing issues derailed that. The facts are straightforward: Nebraska law requires candidates for county offices like sheriff to file their Statement of Financial Interests (Form C-1) with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission by the March 2, deadline. When that deadline passes without the form, the law is clear: the name is removed from the ballot. This is handled by state authorities, not our county party. We did not withhold information, we did not plot against anyone, and we have no role in those decisions. Tim Huntington filed properly and is now our Republican nominee for sheriff. As a party, we have no obligation or plan to support write-in efforts for the others. Our focus remains on uniting behind the nominee we've got and winning in November. That said, let's not let this overshadow everything else we’ve been building together. This moment is tough, but it doesn't define us. What defines us is the momentum we've gained over the last two years—and that's worth celebrating. These aren't just activities—it’s the work of building a party rooted in conservative principles, strong families, limited government, and putting Nebraska first. Let’s look at where we are!! For this primary, seven candidates have requested endorsement from our party. Seven! That's a clear sign of our growing relevance and the value people see in our support. We're in the game, and people are noticing. Our own Vice Chair is stepping up big-time, running for State Board of Education in District 5. That's statewide impact—proof we're developing talent right here at home and engaging at higher levels. I've personally taken on the role of statewide petition administrator for five key ballot initiatives on issues that matter to everyday Nebraskans. We're not just talking about change—we're helping drive it. Several of our members are running for local offices this cycle. We're equipping leaders who share our values, to serve right here in Seward County. We're raising money—and using it wisely—for real engagement: door-to-door conversations, events, and outreach that grows our party and earns respect in the community. Folks are already asking about our slate cards and looking forward to the meet-and-greets we host. That's exciting—because we're connecting candidates directly to the people they want to serve. Our members don’t just sit and talk. We’re out there testifying on bills at the Unicameral, interacting with senators, and engaging with local officials. Seward GOP is a party of action, not just words. And today—right now—we're electing three representatives from each of our five commissioner districts to our County Central Committee, plus four executive board officers. That's 19 committed Republicans, spanning different ages and backgrounds, representing the full voice of Seward County. This is democracy in action, and it's powerful. A few months ago, I wondered if it even made sense for me to keep going in this role. But after all the experience, the lessons, and the growth we've had, I believe we're finally figuring this Republican Party thing out. We're stronger, more organized, and more effective than ever. That's why I'm running for re-election as Chair. I want to keep teaching others what I've learned and mentor the next generation of leaders. Just look at all these young people getting involved! We are positioned to guide this party into the next election cycle with boldness and intention. So later today, when we vote, I'd be honored to have your support for another term as Chair so we can keep building, growing, and winning—for Seward County and for Nebraska. Thank you—and let's get to work!
- Two Nebraska County Chairs Chosen to represent Nebraska
LINCOLN, NE - The Nebraska Republican Party (NEGOP) chairman, Eric Underwood announced on Tuesday that two county chair leaders in Nebraska have been chosen to attend the Mid-West Fly-in in Columbus, Ohio at the end of June 26th and 27th, 2023. Over the last few cycles, the RNC has hosted comprehensive training and networking events around the country for state chairs, RNC members and state party staff. These Regional Fly-ins provide a unique opportunity for local leadership with colleagues in neighboring states to share best practices, find creative solutions to common problems, and plot a course to victory for the party. Chairwoman McDaniel has expanded the Regional Fly-ins to include county chairs and Underwood named Seward County GOP Chair, Danna Seevers and Keith County GOP Chair, Christine Vail as the Nebraska attendees. “Danna and Chris are two of the hardest working party members in the field. They continuously promote the activities of the party, how to get involved and show up and mentor others in new leadership positions.” Chris Vail, Keith County GOP said: “This is an honor to be chosen by our state leadership to attend this event. We are working all across the state to prepare for the 2024 primaries which are less than a year away. After the successful year in the legislature, we look forward to electing true conservatives to represent the people.” Danna Seevers added: "I am so humbled to be selected to represent Nebraska at the regional RNC meeting. Being still new to politics, I'm eager to learn more about the role of county chairs and how I can better lead and serve Republicans in my county and state." - Sheriff’s Report Under Scrutiny: Seward County Demands Clarity on Task Force Spending
By now, you may have read the article in Wednesday's paper titled, "Commissioner's Questions Hold Up Drug Interdiction Paperwork". That article was based on the county board meeting held on Tuesday, August 19. After being tabled, the issue was brought back on this week's agenda, and a lengthy, contentious discussion ensued. This is a very complicated situation, and we believe it's imperative that citizens have firsthand information. At the bottom of this article, you will find two links to meeting recordings. If you're pressed for time, skip to the 12 min. 45 sec. mark in Part 1 of the meeting recordings , to hear Commissioner Raegan Hain's letter to the board. The Republican Party of Seward County proudly supports our law enforcement, including our dedicated police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and county attorneys, who work tirelessly to uphold public safety and justice. As staunch advocates for accountability, fiscal responsibility, and limited government, we are also committed to ensuring taxpayer dollars are managed with utmost integrity. We believe in transparent governance and hold our elected officials to the highest standards, diligently investigating any discrepancies in public spending to safeguard the trust and resources of our community. This week, at the August 26, 2025, Seward County Board of Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Mike Vance re-presented for approval the annual report for the Seward County drug interdiction task force, which collaborates with federal agencies like the U.S. Departments of Justice and Treasury. The ESAC (Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification) report, due by the end of August, detailed the task force budget for fiscal year 2024-2025, including monies from the federal "equitable sharing fund." The board raised concerns about the report's accuracy and completeness, echoing issues from the prior week. These questions delayed approval, as they sought clearer documentation on fund expenditures, especially given the task force's large budget and its role in civil forfeiture practices. (For more information on the Equitable Sharing Program, click here: https://www.justice.gov/criminal/media/1044326/dl?inline= ) This is a developing situation we are following closely, and we invite citizens to listen to both parts of the meeting recordings (totaling 120 minutes) to understand the full context of the discussion. Please consider attending future county board meetings, held every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Next week's agenda can be viewed here: https://files.countyofsewardne.com/clerk/agenda/agenda.pdf . Looking forward, it's important we stay informed about how this task force operates, how taxpayer dollars are allocated, and whether these expenditures align with our values of fiscal responsibility. We encourage you to discuss this matter with fellow citizens, share accurate information within our community, and, if possible, attend the next board meeting on September 2, 2025, to show our commitment to transparency and accountability.
